Billy Newton Davis

International singing superstar, Billy Newton-Davis, has been one of Canada’s premier entertainers for over 25 years. His roots were firmly planted at the age of 5 at a Baptist church in his hometown of Cleveland, Ohio where he learned to sing gospel music. His first professional gig was as a backing vocalist for Gloria Gaynor. He then later performed on Broadway in the hit show ‘Bubblin Brown Sugar’ and also appeared in the Broadway production of ‘Stop The World I Want To Get Off’ starring Sammy Davis Jr.

His debut album, ‘Love Is a Contact Sport’ included the songs ‘Deeper’, ‘Right Beside You,’ and ‘Find My Way Back,’ and won Billy Newton-Davis the 1986 Juno award for Best R&B/Soul Recording and Most Promising Male Vocalist. His 1989 follow-up, ‘Spellbound’, included his most successful single ‘I Can’t Take It,’ as well as ‘Can’t Live with You’ (a duet with Celine Dion) – winner of the the 1989 Juno award for Best R&B/Soul Recording.

In 1991, Billy joined The Nylons and enjoyed a successful stretch performing and touring with the world-renowned singing group. Since leaving The Nylons, he has primarily concentrated on song writing and live jazz and gospel performances. Billy was a guest vocalist on the ‘Seekers Dialogue’ series with internationally acclaimed author and lecturer Marianne Williamson. In March 2008, Billy Newton-Davis performed with The Nylons in Madison, Wisconsin for an evening to celebrate their latest recording ‘Sterling’ 25 years of recording. This was an event that brought together other Alumni of The Nylons and produced an astonishing evening of music.

Billy Newton-Davis has extensively donated his talent towards humanitarian causes, raising money for various communities, AIDS awareness, Actors Equity, housing for people with mental illness and countless other charities and causes. Billy puts his heart first: “I want the world to know that I am sincere. I love what I do and I want to bring that sincerity to my fans when I perform.”

Billy Newton-Davis is the winner of the 2008 Juno Award for ‘Best Dance Recording’ – ‘All You Ever Want” Billy Newton Davis vs. Deadmau5, on Play Records.

Billy’s latest tracks – ‘Are My Dreams’ & ‘I like the Music’, produced by Deadmau5, have been played internationally and are in feature rotation on 103.9 Proud FM Toronto and BBC Radio 1 with Dave Pearce. Billy is also working on an album, due out in 2010, of original hot electro dance tracks for Play Records with assorted DJs and producers from around the world – including deadmau5, Neon Stereo, Nino Anthony, Carl Daniels, and Jesse Saunders.
