24 years young, Spydabrown (AKA Zachary Spider Brown Smith) has been deejaying since he was 12. Vice President of Play Records inc. Play Digital chief engineer and head of A&R, Zach’s deejaying skills evolved with tons of gigs, a huge collection of over 15000+ records, and his expansive knowledge of multiple genres and genuine love for beats.
His desire to learn more of the technical side brought him to an apprenticeship at Great Big Music with one of Canada’s most respected sound engineers Brad Nelson aka “The Magic man” picking up on protools, logic, setting up a studio for recording and dealing with talent, he built the first Play Studios and then moved on to build the dual studio facility that is now Play Records/Play Digital where he is chief engineer and master of recording. His clients include Deadmau5, Melleefresh, Billy Newton Davis, Nino Anthony, Scandalis and the Empire Crew, Dirty 30, Frankie Valentine, Mike O’Howe, Wes Gauthier, Neon Stereo, Kaysh, and Soundsreal to name a few…
Zach’s current musical styles are multi faceted from jungle, drum n’bass to electro-house, garage, mash up, grime and all things label oriented. His new passion is using a video SL plug in for RANE Serrato which allows him to mix video and music at the same time providing a complete audio visual experience when representing Play Records, backing up performers, and personal DJ sets. Recent performances and residencies include South Beach Miami’s Drake Hotel for the huge Beatport Winter Music Party, Club 338 Toronto with MC Scandalis and Melleefresh, Pride Toronto’s performance main stage 2008 with Juno Award winner Billy Newton-Davis, the 2008 Juno Awards in Calgary with Melleefresh & Billy Newton-Davis, Studio Mar Miami for WMC 2008 with Melleefresh & Billy Newton-Davis.
He has recently relocated to London to pursue the development of Play Records’ new sub-label Play Deep (an imprint with a focus on all sounds techno & minimal) and further develop his DJ skills in Europe.
